A maternity shoot is something really special to me.
Not simply because it's nice to capture this time in photos, or because maternity photos happen to be trending right now.
But because I believe that, in that moment, you can't really grasp just how special this time actually is.
A little person is growing inside you.
You may never have seen them, and yet you probably already love them more than anything else.
Your body is changing. Your everyday life is changing. And somewhere inside you, you know that your whole life is about to change soon.
Because you're becoming a mum.
And that's exactly what I find so incredibly special.
I get to capture these first moments.
The time before you hold your baby in your arms for the first time.
Before you see their face for the first time.
Before you truly know what it feels like to be a mum.
I can't yet imagine myself what it must feel like to suddenly realise that this tiny being in your belly is about to change your whole life.
But maybe that's exactly what's beautiful about capturing this time.
Because at some point it will be over.
And I believe these photos aren't just taken today for beautiful memories of the pregnancy.
They're also for later.
For when your child is older.
For when you look through old photos together one day.
For when you can show them that, long before you ever knew their face, they already had a very special place in your life.
How they grew beneath your heart.
How you looked while you were still waiting to finally meet them. Your glow in this special time.
That's why, to me, a maternity shoot isn't a trend.
I believe these photos become more valuable with every year that passes.
Because they capture a time you will never experience in quite the same way again.
The time when you perhaps became a mum for the first time.
The time when your life was slowly changing, even though you didn't yet fully know what was coming your way.
And I think that's exactly what makes this time so special.
That I get to capture a small part of it with my camera means an incredible amount to me.
